All About Koh Samui

🌴 All about Koh Samui! Beaches, nightlife, shopping, tours, and travel tips for your dream Thailand getaway. πŸ–οΈ

Koh Samui is the second-largest island in Thailand, in the Gulf of Thailand. It has its own international airport, making it the main entry point for the southern island group. Around 2 to 3 million tourists visit each year.

The island is roughly 25 km across. The northeast coast, around Chaweng and Lamai, has the most hotels, restaurants, and nightlife. Nathon on the west coast is the main ferry terminal and town.

Most visitors stay 5 to 10 nights. Koh Samui works well as a base for travel to Koh Phangan, which is 30 to 60 minutes away by ferry. If you plan to attend the Full Moon Party, note that regular ferries stop at 5 to 6pm. You will need a night-crossing speedboat package. See our transport guide for options.

Koh Samui is bigger, more developed, and pricier than Koh Phangan or Koh Tao. It suits families, couples, and travelers who want a comfortable base with beaches, resorts, and nightlife options.
