Koh Phangan is a Thai island in the Gulf of Thailand, about 100 km south of Surat Thani on the mainland. It is best known for the Full Moon Party on Haad Rin beach, but the island has 30-plus beaches, coral reefs, waterfalls, muay thai gyms, yoga retreats, and a growing co-working scene.

The island has around 15,000 permanent residents. The main pier and market town is Thong Sala on the west coast. Haad Rin, on the southern tip, is the Full Moon Party area.

Getting to Koh Phangan is only possible by boat. The closest airports are Koh Samui (30 minutes by ferry) and Surat Thani (2 hours). Most travelers arrive via Koh Samui. See our transport guide for ferry schedules and routes.
