The Full moon parties in Thailand take place every month, following the moon calendar.
However, some event dates may get shifted a day or two.
This may happen when the full moon date collides with a national holiday, and it is being announced by the Full Moon Party committee in advance. This happened for several dates (usually twice per year) for example on the August 12/13 2022 party.
If you want to experience a mega-party you should definitely come during the high season, between late December and April. Another peak on the Full Moon Party Schedule is during the summer holidays in July and August. October until November are the quietest months on Koh Phangan.
π Footwear: Sandals or closed shoes (avoid flip-flops)
π« Avoid: Walking barefoot due to beach trash
𧴠Essentials: UV paint, water, cash for drinks/food
π What to Bring: Passport copy, minimal valuables
π¨ Accommodation: Book 3+ nights minimum at Haad Rin hotels
The only things you really need are sandals or closed shoes.
While it's really tempting to go with flip-flops or even barefoot, this should be avoided if possible.
There can be some trash on the beach, and you do not want to accidentally step on something sharp.

The full moon party in Thailand is definitely a unique experience that's worth checking out. Thailand is known for its beautiful beaches and islands, and Koh Phangan is one of the prettiest islands you can find.
You don't have to take our word for it, though. You can see some other people's experiences from the August 2022 full moon party here.
What we do recommend though, to make your full moon party even more memorable is to take time to fully experience Koh Phangan outside of the party. Check the dates on the Full Moon Party Schedule, then see our guide on the best things to do in Koh Phangan here.
Explore:
Other parties on the island

π One Night: Speedboat from Koh Samui, party all night, return next morning
π¨ 2-3 Days: Minimum booking at Haad Rin hotels, catch pre/after-parties
ποΈ One Week: Explore island attractions and activities
π One Month+: Many visitors stay longer, popular with digital nomads
β° Timing: Arrive night before, stay day after for recovery
There are different ways to experience the Full Moon Party:
The one-night dance: If you stay on Koh Samui, you can get a speedboat in the evening, party all night, and come back to Samui the next morning on the speedboat. This may work if you don't sleep at night.
2-3 days: Many hotels and hostels close to Haad Rin beach will only allow you to book a minimum of 3 nights. You may want to arrive the night before the party and stay another day after. This will give you time to get to know the island a little bit or at least recover and relax afterward. Also, you can catch a few of the pre-parties or after-parties.
A week: This will give you time to explore the different attractions of the island, including beaches, water sports, and Muay Thai.
A month (or longer): Quite a few visitors fall in love with Koh Phangan and stay an entire season. In fact, the island has become quite the hub for digital nomads recently.
π Start Time: Around 7 pm when moon rises (most arrive at 10 pm)
π End Time: Until sunrise around 7 am (12-hour party)
β‘ Pacing: Need to pace yourself for the full 12 hours
π After-Parties: Continue with after-parties or join beach cleanup
π§Ή Cleanup: Municipality cleans up, volunteers welcome to help
You need to pace yourself if you want to make it through the entire 12 hours.
While the municipality and business owners have a process in place to clean up the beach the next morning, there's always the possibility to join other volunteers and participate in the clean-up. If you're staying longer, check out our complete Koh Phangan guide for more activities.

There have been discussions already and we got the unofficial list of 2026 dates here. But please mind that there might be changes and we will check again in the next months. Typically, we will know with 99% certainty by September 2025.
