Are the parties every month on a full moon?
The Full moon parties in Thailand take place every month, following the moon calendar.
However, some event dates may get shifted a day or two.
This may happen when the full moon date collides with a national holiday, and it is being announced by the Full Moon Party committee in advance. This happened for several dates (usually twice per year) for example on the August 12/13 2022 party.

When is the best time to go to the next full moon party in 2025?
If you want to experience a mega-party you should definitely come during the high season, between late December and April. Another peak on the Full Moon Party Schedule is during the summer holidays in July and August. October until November are the quietest months on Koh Phangan.
So this is the perpetual full moon party calendar:
Months | What to expect |
January-April | High season – Best weather, lots of people. Full moon party at its best. Sometimes more than 30.000 visitors |
May-June | It’s getting hotter and more humid. Full moon parties help to sweat it out. |
July – August | During Summer Vacation in many countries, lots of international visitors come to Koh Phangan Full Moon Party |
September-November | This is the quiet season, hot, humid, and rainy. It’s also monsoon season. But as it’s less touristy, it may just be the moment you enjoy it the most. |
December & 31 December | In December the island prepares for the next tourist season. Mid-December the island begins to fill up. 31 December: Not the full moon, but a New Year’s Eve Party in Full Moon Style. Fireworks, lots of visitors |
What do you need for the full moon party?
The only things you really need are sandals or closed shoes.
While it’s really tempting to go with flip-flops or even barefoot, this should be avoided if possible.
There can be some trash on the beach, and you do not want to accidentally step on something sharp.

Is the Thailand Full Moon Party worth it?
The full moon party in Thailand is definitely a unique experience that’s worth checking out. Thailand is known for its beautiful beaches and islands, and Koh Phangan is one of the prettiest islands you can find.
You don’t have to take our word for it, though. You can see some other people’s experiences from the August 2022 full moon party here.

How long should you stay on Koh Phangan?
There are different ways to experience the Full Moon Party:
-
- The one-night dance: If you stay on Koh Samui, you can get a speedboat in the evening, party all night, and come back to Samui the next morning on the speedboat. This may work if you don’t sleep at night.
-
- 2-3 days: Many hotels and hostels close to Haad Rin beach will only allow you to book a minimum of 3 nights. You may want to arrive the night before the party and stay another day after. This will give you time to get to know the island a little bit or at least recover and relax afterward. Also, you can catch a few of the pre-parties or after-parties.
-
- A week: This will give you time to explore the different attractions of the island.
-
- A month (or longer): Quite a few visitors fall in love with Koh Phangan and stay an entire season. In fact, the island has become quite the hub for digital nomads recently.
What time does the party start and when does it end?
The party starts when the moon comes out, which is around 7 pm, although many only will arrive around 10 pm. The party goes on until sunrise, around 7 am. You need to pace yourself if you want to make it through the entire 12 hours.
After the party, you can continue straight on with one of the after-parties. Or you can join in the beach cleanup. While the municipality and business owners have a process in place to clean up the beach the next morning, there’s always the possibility to join other volunteers and participate in the clean-up.
